Mastering Social Media Marketing Heading into the New Decade

As we head into a new decade, it’s safe to say that one of the fastest growing technologies from the previous decade has been social media. This is backed up by the fact that it’s now a must-have form of marketing for all successful businesses.

This has been underlined even more by the rise of ‘social influencers’. In fact, they have become so powerful, it is reported that world famous super model, Kylie Jenner, is paid around $1.2 million (£960,000) for just a single Instagram post.

When’s best to post on social media?

The first thing to consider, which is something most people easily forget, is that the time of day you send out a post can massively contribute to the levels of success you achieve on each platform, and in particular the amount of engagement your posts get.

A recent report produced by Sprout Social in 2019, outlined the best times of day for tech companies to post content by social platform, as follows:

Facebook tech engagement

Instagram tech engagement

Twitter tech engagement

LinkedIn global engagement

The power of video content on social media

People these days seem to have less time than ever, so creating a post that catches a person’s eye and involves them having to read a small amount is a must for social media.

This is where short and snappy video posts can work really well, engaging people and getting a message across in a more light-hearted, fun and relatable way.

Social Sprout found that video content was in the top 3 things that social marketeers needed to produce in order to succeed on all of the following networks. You’ll see it’s the most important factor for success on three of the social platforms:

Get creative with your social captions and hashtags

A picture (or video) Is worth a thousand words, but you can’t skip the words entirely. Creating engaging, industry relevant, fun captions on your post is a must to achieve better results for your social in 2020! Getting creative with your hashtags can also make you stand out from the crowd. Mix your hashtags up with the standard one-worders, all the way to funny, ironic, exciting hashtags to engage the user even further with your content, ultimately increasing the chance of them clicking on a link to your website and potentially becoming a lead.
